5 AM
There’s something special about waking up in
Darkness
When the sun is safely sleeping softly under the watchful gaze of a thousand stars
There’s something special about waking up in a
Daze
Where nothing makes sense besides the buzz, krr, ring of the alarm
Where your eyes hide under cover from the probing light
As they slowly emerge from their cave of dreams
The smell of cheap burnt coffee
Loosely mixed with too little toothpaste and a bit of shaving cream
The world smells different when its under your control
Before the heat or fires or bugs or anything else changes it
There’s something special about 5 AM
Stuff looks different in the artificial light of dark
The mirror is sharper and quicker to bite
the blurry becomes clear as our eyes spark to life
There’s something special about driving at 5 AM
The roads seem softer, tempting, treacherous
Luring you towards a bright path that ends in dark nothingness
As the sun rises and paints the horizon with colourful silhouettes of stories and time and beauty and life
And slowly wakes the people that make any of that matter
Bringing forward a new day and new life
You realise how special it is to be alive at 5 AM
And 6 AM…
And 7AM...
Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 - "So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realised that these pleasures are from the hand of God. For who can eat or enjoy anything apart from him?"
